The purpose of these two gatherings was for each person to voice their words into the world for the first time.
The written words had been made into physical objects by being printed onto vibrant anodised aluminium discs. The first edition of the texts on anodised discs was hidden inside the sculpture during the final stage of fabrication. A second edition of the discs was produced as a gift for each contributor in gratitude for their participation in the project.
In a gentle ceremonial way, the discs, each held in a gold fabric bag, were presented to the gathered contributors. One by one, each person was invited to stand in front of the 1001 Spheres’ halo, to read/perform/recite their written words and share some context for their text. It was a personal and moving experience, the participants collectively energising the space with their spoken words and their presence.
The first edition of the discs will remain forever concealed within 1001 Spheres, empowering the sculpture with the spirit of the 23 contributors. The process of releasing these words by voicing them out loud, has energised the physical space around the sculpture with further layers of meaning.
