about us

We are Chiara Corbelletto and Judith Thompson, we live and work together in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand. 1001 Spheres is a collaborative project, exploring public art as a catalyst for social change.

Independently, we have been involved in gender equality, women’s rights, LGBQTI+ rights and other social movements both in Aotearoa and in Italy, over many years. Working together on 1001 Spheres project provides the opportunity to combine Chiara’s experience in public art with Judith’s expertise in design thinking and collaborative processes.

Dedication

During the production of 1001 Spheres sculpture, we sadly lost two women who were important to us and to the project. Anna Tempia Bonda, our cousin and keen supporter of the project from concept stage. Georgina Beyer, a gender equality trailblazer, who had intended to contribute to the 23 voices component of the project, but the rapid decline of her health made this not possible. As a personal tribute, we placed an additional disc of dedication to Georgina and Anna, alongside the 23 discs with written-word contributions, concealed within the sculpture.

Haere rā kuia Georgina.
Carissima Anna, ci manchi.
